November 7-8 2020 Kayak Camping

Image
On November 7 and 8, 2020, the boys set out on a Kayak Camping Adventure on Carter's Lake.  It was fraught with danger and excitement along with cold beer and good times. The journey began at Dave's house with Jay meeting him there before heading to Ben's to pick him up along with Slim. They shoved off from the loading ramp after loading up to make the dangerous journey across the choppy lake.  The seas were rough that day my friends. Map of Trip As our adventure began, we started paddling out towards Camp Branch.  Once we crossed the open channel of rough seas, Dave realized we were not where we were supposed to be.  He redirected our efforts successfully. After crossing back over the 450 foot depth of water, Dave and Ben were hit by a rogue wave that nearly swamped their boat.  They were able to make it to a small island to bale out their kayak.  Due to the load being carried, it was decided Ben would remain behind and Dave would return for him....

The Edmund Fitzgerald

It was forty five years ago the good ship and crew went down in the Great Lakes.  I was in the first grade in Knoxville Tennessee attending Cedar Bluff Primary School.  I had Mrs. Ward who had a bee-hive hairdo and would always look at me when it was time not to talk.  I remember seeing this story on the news and it's haunted me ever since.  Gordon Lightfoot didn't help with this song.  Let's not forget the Fitz. #WreckoftheEdmundFitzgerald  #GordonLightfoot

MLK 2019 and 2020

I forgot to post about MLK the last two years.  I didn't attend 2019 due to my daughter having a cheer competition in Charlotte.  It was a shame I didn't get to attend but I was able to go to the NASCAR Hall of Fame which was pretty cool. Saw the Giant Peach in Gaffney SC.  I don't care if they say they produce more peaches in South Carolina, I say there is nothing better than a Georgia Peach. Dave won the Deadpool for the 2018 year which was celebrated in 2019.  Dave also won the following year.  For that trip, we went to Lake Eufaula again in January of 2020 before the non-sense known as COVID-19 started.  We could not play at the state golf course had been closed.  We were sad about this because Mr. Cartier is out of work now.  I hope he is doing okay and not letting anyone go shirtless on a golf course somewhere.  I have included a number of pics from the trip: The Trophy Upclose Dinner on Saturday night Slim did a great job cooking...
